Ex-voto is a term rooted in Latin meaning “from the vow made”. These votive offerings, often in the form of objects or tokens, are tendered as expressions of gratitude, devotion, or supplication to a deity or spiritual entity in fulfilment of a vow or in recognising divine intervention.
The offerings depict themes of the digital realm (e.g. surveillance, mining, data centres) but also asks for specific ‘miracles’ to happen, such as the liberation of Julien Assange, or the growing of a tree from a data centre.
